How to Understand Your Customers & Give Them What They Want

When developing a business, your product or service isn’t the only thing that’s important. What’s most important is to get inside your customers’ mind.

To give your customers what they want, you MUST think like a potential customer and ask yourself a few simple questions

In simple words, you as a businessman and a marketer MUST think like a customer. However, this isn’t an easy job to do because people have different taste and different needs at a different time.

Anyway, if you’re smart enough, you can notice the main needs and desires everyone has. In order to do it properly and efficiently, there are certain steps you should follow. If you don’t know where to start, we’re here to help! Apply our tips in your business before you develop or launch a new product or service.

Imagine You Are a Potential Customer or Buyer

In order to know what your customer or potential buyer wants, you have to think as one. Wonder about their needs, wishes, concerns rather than your own. Most businessmen make a common mistake and that’s focusing too much on the product/service and too little on the customers. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Is this the product I would buy? Or the service I would use?
  • Is this the right price? Or should I lower the price? Maybe place a higher price to indicate the quality?
  • Is the appearance of the product appealing enough?
  • Would I need this product on a daily basis?
  • Is the service performing well and would I chose this particular service over many others?

Get an Outside View of Your Business and Products

Thinking like a customer isn’t the only thing you should focus in order to please your potential customers/buyers. You have to get an outside view of your business and products as well. How? Well, start with the question – ‘Would I buy something from this company or use their services?’ If the answer is yes, think again!

Are you answering honestly? Does your company have a good customer support? Does your company have a trustworthy appearance? Does your company name sound convincing enough? Would you trust a company like yours?

After, you might consider including a third party in the outside view process. Ask friends, family or a user research group to share their opinion about your company. Be open to possible critics and try to improve everything you assume should be improved. Deep inside, every businessman knows what they have to do to improve their business.

However, some of them are lazy and keep their money in their pocket. Once you get everything fixed, focus on making the best marketing strategy. Stay clear and strict about your company, its products or services. Keep it convincing and professional. And remember, you have to invest money, to get money.

Overcome Your Competition by Competing with Yourself

A common mistake every businessman makes is competing with others and become the best at the market. However, to attract and hold customers, you don’t have to show them that you are better than others.

You have to show them that your product is unique and one-of-a-kind. If you compete with others, you will overcome your competitors’ success and not your own. Complete with the person you see in the mirror every day. Aim to improve your business and make it better than it was yesterday, and not make it better than others.
